Is Chris Barnes Misunderstood? - Maybe Chris Barnes is misunderstood by some death metal fans. For some reason, most of Six Feet Under s Material seems to get bashed for a number of reasons, some are which I dont understand. Now, as I stand here and defend the band, please understand that these are only my opinions, and if you disagree, that is fine. I am just going to try to shed some light on some subjects that are usually critized by metal heads. First off, the days of Cannibal Corpse are over. There is nothing that can be done about that, and some fans still howl that the music is nothing like Corpse of old. I think that is the reason that Chris was fired by the band. I think he wanted to go into a different muscial direction, creating more of an old school feel to death metal. You actually could hear a big difference on Corspe s last album with Chris, The Bleeding and that is considered one of the best albums with Chris on vocal. I dont believe he changed his style of song writing and slowed things down a bit, to sell more records. Sure, every band wants to make money, but if we really look at it, you arent going to see them on MTV s total request, or hear them in a daily rotation of rock radio (only Metallica did that). I also believe he wanted to incorporate a more stoner type metal into his music, which you can get a good feel on with Warpath Now, I will admit that the first two albums (Haunted and Warpath) are anything to get excited about. The are both just average, and the band wouldn t release anything Outstanding until the Maxium Violence CD. Lets take a look at the CD I am reviewing, which is True Carnage This is a very good death metal album, with plenty of brutal riffs, and gutteral vocal, and I would say its an under-rated album. The first problem I think fans have with it, is that isnt Maxium Violence The other is that some hate the fact that Chris teams up with Ice-T on One Bullet Left Since alot of death metal fans despise rap, its clear that seemed to leave a sour taste in some fans mouth. The fact is that Ice-T is a huge fan of hardcore and Metal music, and even though his side project Bodycount was not very good at being a hardcore act, at least he is into extreme music. True Carnage should not be missed. Even though its not perfect, nor is it as good as 13 or Maxium Violence, it still is killer. I think if some just focus on the band, and not on how much Barnes has changed his style of music, then more people might just like it. In other words, listen with an open mind. ENJOY

you have to understand whats going on - This is a stoner death metal album!! this cd is about ripping the bong and listeing to some laid back DM. SFU to me have never really been about being technical they just play what they like..

The well has run dry - I ve followed SFU from the beginning and felt that each album has gotten a little worse than the prior one, mainly due to lack of originality (don t get me wrong the first 3 albums are great). Now I feel the well has run dry and I don t find the material interesting anymore. The only track I cared for off this album was One Bullet Left which features Ice-T (the rapper Jordan s review was referring to, but he doesn t ruin the song as he s got metal cred, remember Body Count??). Chris vox have gotten especially tiresome over the years.

Oh... Wow... - Lots of critical folks on this one. Cd starts with Impulse to Disembowel which was pretty cool, then it bursts into The Day the Dead Walked which shows Chris s maniacal screech he introduced us to (in a much more subtle, brief manner) on Tombs Hammer Smashed Face.It s also got the One Bullet Left featuring Ice T, and of course my personal favorite Sick and Twisted with the chick from... ...Crisis... Karyn Crisis... Assuming I spelled everything correctly.Oh, and The Murderers was a killer track too, and I saw them live with Hatebreed, and SFU just rocked it.Great live band, great cd. Maybe that s why you guys hate this stuff so much. I can think of a number of bands that just sound lousy on cd, but when you see them live...It changes everything.

true garbage - Six Feet Under are back with probably there worst release yet! not much of there releases have impressed me much, but this takes the cake as the worst SFU album yet. Chris Barnes vocals are interesting to say the least, in Cannibal Corpse they were incredible! they had low and high range perfectly! and with each release a new intensity, with Six Feet Under, he sounds like a water buffalo. It s tolerable, but it sure isn t like his Cannibal Corpse days. Mostly all of the tracks on Maximum Carnage are major cheese! with embarrassing cuts like One Bullet Left and Sick and Twisted. If anyone is going to ruin Death Metal it will be Chris Barnes, luckily he isn t doing that great of a job. As we haven t seen any SFU videos on MTV yet. I see a bad future for SFU as a band, and with releases like this it s no wonder why. They should of named this True Garbage instead! cause thats what it is ... garbage.
